The tree which moves some to tears of joy is in the eyes of others only a green thing that stands in the way. Some see nature all ridicule and deformity... and some scarce see nature at all. But to the eyes of the man of imagination, nature is imagination itself.

William Blake

Year start:

Create a new folder for the year.

Copy the control database into last year’s folder. This means if you muck up, you only lose this year’s stuff.

Copy the tally sheet and the clues sheet from last year to this year. Edit them, clearing out the old data, but leave the formatting and formulas. (Take out all but the first sheet. Unhide all columns, unprotect worksheet, Edit the first sheet, duplicate as needed.)

Review the point classes table in Access. Make any changes you wish. Print it out and/or export it as an excel spreadsheet.

Adjust the points table (hidden by default) on the left edge of the tally spread sheet on page one.

Copy the rules from the previous year’s folder. Edit it in word. Rename the version at the top and in the header on the first page.. When edited, pass around to the outdoor committee for comment.

Currently I use a zone fairly hard, then give it a rest. Basically I want to use all the controls in a zone at least once during the season, then not use that zone for at least a year, possibly two. Zone E by itself can be used for 3 full races. NGRU work as a group, are well suited for a low snow year. XFZS work well, and are being used for 2006-7.
